Historical Writers’ Lecture Series
LITTLE ROCK — Blake Perkins, the author of Hillbilly Hellraisers: Federal Power and Populist Defiance in the Ozarks, will kick off the Arkansas State Archives’ 2019 Historical Writers’ Lecture Series with Pen to Podium: Hillbilly Hellraisers at 6 p.m. at the Department of Arkansas Heritage, 1100 North St. The lecture is free. There will be a reception with refreshments 30 minutes before the lecture. Perkins is an assistant professor and chair of the history department at Williams Baptist College in Walnut Ridge. Single Parent Scholarship Application Deadline
BATESVILLE — The spring deadline is Tuesday to apply for scholarships from the Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund of Independence County. Single parents who are Arkansas residents, have earned a GED or high school diploma and are enrolled at an Arkansas college or university for spring 2019 are eligible to apply. It’s a Wonderful KLIFE
SEARCY — The fourth annual It’s a Wonderful KLIFE 5K and 1-mile fun run event has been rescheduled for Tuesday. The run will start at 9:30 a.m. in front of the historic Courthouse on the Square. Runners and walkers of all abilities are invited to come out to support Searcy KLIFE. Trophies will be awarded for winners and for best Christmas/lighted costume. Small Business Revolution Pep Rally
SEARCY — Everyone is encouraged to come to the Small Business Revolution Welcome Pep Rally at 5:30 p.m. on Spring Street downtown to welcome the Producers to #MySearcy. The city is trying to win $500,000 and be featured on an eight-episode HULU show. Attendees may be filmed by their crew. Feed the Veterans
CABOT— The Feed the Veterans food pantry, 214 Rainbow Drive, will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The pantry, which lets veterans shop for the items and amounts they need, serves military veterans and their spouses and children younger than 18. Retirees, guardsmen and reservists are welcome. The only requirement is proof of military service — a DD-214 or a Veterans Affairs Health Care card or military ID. Build Your Own Bat Box Workshop

Community Health Education Luncheon

Swim Your Resolution Challenge
BATESVILLE — Batesville Parks and Recreation will offer Swim Your Resolution — a long-distance swim challenge with options to swim a 5K (3.1 miles), a 10K (6.2 miles) or a 20K (12.4 miles) throughout January. There will also be a Beast Mode challenge for advanced swimmers who want to complete all three options (21.7 miles). All participants will receive a long-sleeve T-shirt and a medal. Yoga Fundamentals Class
MELBOURNE — Ozarka College in Melbourne will host a six-week series of one-hour Yoga Fundamentals classes, taught by Deltha Sharp, through the college’s Continuing Education program. The classes will meet Tuesdays, Jan. 15 through Feb. 19, in Room 107 of the Miller Building. Session A at 4:30 p.m. will focus on beginning and basic posture, and session B at 5:45 p.m. will be for students to advance their practice. Yoga experience is not required for either session.
