Little House musical

Arkansas children in grades 4-12 will stage a musical version of Little House on the Prairie — adapted from the Laura Ingalls Wilder classic by D.L. Webb of Oxford, Miss.-based The Fable Factory — as the culmination of the weeklong Lennox Summer Youth Theater Workshop, 7 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday in Riceland Auditorium, Grand Prairie Center, 2709 U.S. 165 South, Stuttgart. A $12,000 contribution from Lennox Industries to the Phillips Community College of the University of Arkansas Stuttgart Foundation covers the costumes and other production costs. Tickets are $10. Junior Beast

The Theatre Company of the Ozarks and the Ozark Arts Council are staging Beauty and the Beast Jr. (music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman, with additional songs by Menken and Tim Rice, book by Linda Woolverton), 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday and July 27 and 10 a.m. July 25 at at the Lyric Theater, 115 W. Yadaloo, oo, oo!

Texas Country Red Dirt musician Stoney LaRue headlines the recently announced Yadaloo Music and Arts Festival, Sept. 22 at the North Shore Riverwalk Park in North Little Rock.

The musical lineup will also include ­ Jason Boland & The Stragglers, William Clark Green, ­Bree Ogden, Ashtyn Barbaree, Joey Barrett, Cliff & Susan, Pamela Hopkins and Matt Sammons. The event will also feature a variety of creative arts activities, games and activities (including tethered hot air balloon rides, mechanical bull, kid zone, dog park with dog vendors and adult games like yard pong and Baggo), food trucks and beer vendors.

Gates open at 1 p.m.; musical acts play from 2-9 p.m. Early-bird tickets, $20 until Aug. 10, $27.50 until Sept. 21, $35 day-of, free for children 12 and younger. VIP tickets, which include a backstage view and possible meet and greet with the artists, will also be available. A portion of the proceeds goes to Habitat for Humanity of Central Arkansas. Weekend Side Show

The Weekend Theater, 1001 W. Seventh St. at Chester Street, Little Rock, will hold auditions for the musical Side Show (music by Henry Krieger, book and lyrics by Bill Russell) 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Aug. 3 and 6-8 p.m. Aug. 4. Prepare 16-32 bars of a song in the style of the show — an accompanist will be provided; no a cappella auditions; the auditions will also consist of cold readings from the script. If possible, fill out audition form (available online at tinyurl.com/y4laelg3) in advance and provide a 4-by-4-inch photo. Audition forms will also be available at the audition. Director Duane Jackson is seeking a diverse cast of all ages, genders, sizes and races; unique skills (acrobatics, circus skills, etc.) are a plus. Production dates are Oct. 11-27.
