Education board elects new chair

Diane Zook of Melbourne and Little Rock has been elected by her Arkansas Board of Education colleagues to be the next chairman of the board, effective July 1.

Zook is a retired teacher and education program administrator with a particular focus on special education services.

She was appointed to the state board by Gov. Mike Beebe in 2013. Her seven-year board term expires in 2020.

Zook replaces Jay Barth of Little Rock as the board's chairman. Barth has been the education board's chairman for the past two years. His appointment to the board expires this summer.

Charisse Dean of Little Rock was selected as vice chairman at the board's meeting Friday.
