Police ID victim in central Arkansas wreck; 76-year-old experienced 'medical emergency' before crash

Police identified on Wednesday a 76-year-old man who suffered a medical emergency before his truck struck a line of trees Monday in Garland County.

Gary Hitzeman was driving east in Hot Springs on Trivista Right Street near the Talisman Street intersection shortly before 10:30 a.m. when he experienced the emergency, Cpl. Joey Williams, spokesman for Hot Springs police, said.

The man’s vehicle, a 2006 Ford Ranger, then rolled into a line of trees, police said. According to authorities, Hitzeman likely died before the crash.

“He just bumped into the trees and came to rest there, and it took a few minutes for somebody to call because it really just looked like he was parked on the side of the road,” Williams said.
