Attorney, activist announces bid for judgeship

A longtime northeast Arkansas attorney and community activist announced on Thursday his plans to run for the Division 5, 2nd Judicial Circuit position.

Charles "Skip" Mooney Jr. of Jonesboro announced on Facebook that he will run for the position.

"As most of you know, I am not a politician and I never will be," Mooney said on Facebook. "However, I truly believe that it is time for me to step out of my comfort zone as a trial lawyer to seek this judgeship, which would give me the opportunity to make some real positive changes in the Second Judicial Circuit, if I am elected."

Mooney has worked at his family's law firm in Jonesboro since 1982. He also has been a member of the Arkansas Youth Rx Prevention Campaign Committee; the Prescription Drug Monitoring Programs Legislation Workgroup Committee; and the State Prescription Drug Take Back Committee.

He is the founder and chairman of the board for Out of the Dark Inc., a nonprofit, grass-roots volunteer community organization that he started in the fall of 2008 as a response to five reported heroin overdoses involving young people in his community.

"I intend to work extremely hard throughout each of the counties to earn your support and I hope that each of you will step up to help me with my campaign," Mooney said
