Governor sets special election for House seat vacated by lawmaker who resigned to work with Little Rock mayor

Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson has set a November special election to fill the seat of a Democratic lawmaker who resigned to take a job with Little Rock's mayor.

Hutchinson's office on Thursday said the governor issued a proclamation setting a Nov. 5 election for the District 36 seat in Little Rock that was held by former Rep. Charles Blake. Blake was the top Democrat in the majority-Republican House.

According to the proclamation dated Wednesday, the primaries for the seat will be held on Aug. 6 and a special primary runoff if needed will be held Sept. 3. The filing period for candidates will begin at noon June 3 and end at noon on June 7.

Blake left office to become Little Rock Mayor Frank Scott's chief of staff .
