Man facing theft, resisting charges
Sherwood police arrested a North Little Rock man Friday after he attempted to steal from Kohl's, threw a police officer on the ground and evaded an attempted Taser shot, an arrest report said.
Sherwood police arrested Jared Alan McMahan, 29, on charges of robbery and resisting arrest Friday after responding to a call about a shoplifting in progress at the Kohl's store at 7600 Warden Road, the report said.
McMahan threw one police officer on the ground while trying to evade him, the report said. A second responding officer tackled McMahan and placed him in handcuffs, the report said.
McMahan was being held without bail Friday evening in the Pulaski County jail.
Boy bruised, mom arrested, police say
A 6-year-old boy went to school covered in bruises, red welts and makeup Friday morning, and his mother spent Friday night in jail, an arrest report said.
Jacksonville police officers arrested Nicole Welch, 43, on a charge of second-degree domestic battery Friday after a school employee reported seeing "large, red, swollen marks all over" the body of Welch's child, the report said. A cut on the child's face had been covered up with makeup, the report said.
The boy told a school counselor that Welch had punished him with a belt because he had defecated on himself, the report said.
Welch was being held without bail Friday night in the Pulaski County jail, according to the jail's roster.
Officers jail youth, say gun in vehicle
A Sylvan Hills High School student was arrested Friday after Sherwood police found a stolen pistol in the glove compartment of her vehicle, an arrest report said.
Sherwood police were sent to the high school Friday after school security officials reported a student with a firearm in their vehicle, the report said. Tremaya Marie Scroggins, who told police about the gun in her glove box, was arrested on charges of minor in possession.
Scroggins was being held without bail Friday night in the Pulaski County jail, according to the jail's roster.
