Former UA trustee, wife give $50,000

FAYETTEVILLE -- A $50,000 gift to the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville from a former board of trustees member and his wife will support student scholarships.

The Jim and Susan von Gremp Advance Arkansas Endowed Scholarship will go to students from Arkansas with financial need.

"We believe that assisting those with limited resources -- especially first-generation college students -- can help change the lives of family members for generations to come," Jim von Gremp said in a statement released by UA.

The university's announcement described him as a first-generation college student who earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri and a Master of Business Administration degree from UA.

Von Gremp, a former Walmart executive, served on the UA board of trustees from 2005-16 after first being appointed by then-Gov. Mike Huckabee, under whom he served as executive director of governmental operations.
