Hogs lose two more commitments

Tight end Brandon Frazier and quarterback Chandler Morris announced plans to reopen their recruitment on Twitter on Tuesday.

Frazier committed to the Hogs in May while Morris, the son of former University of Arkansas coach Chad Morris, committed in June.

They became the sixth and seventh pledges to reopen their recruiting after the firing of Chad Morris.

Frazier, 6-7, 230 pounds, of McKinney (Texas) North picked Arkansas over scholarship offers from Baylor, Texas Tech, Auburn, Oklahoma State, Iowa State, Nebraska, Minnesota, TCU, SMU, Vanderbilt, Purdue and others.

Chandler Morris, 5-10, 172, of Highland Park in Dallas, had scholarship offers from Oklahoma, Clemson, Kansas State, Auburn, Colorado, Virginia Tech, Kansas and others before picking Arkansas.

Tight end Allen Horace, 6-5, 242, of Crockett, Texas; receiver Savion Williams, 6-4, 210. of Marshall, Texas; receiver Mason Mangum, 6-0, 175, of Austin Westlake; running back John Gentry, 5-10, 190, of Houston North Shore; and athlete Kelvontay Dixon, 6-0, 175, of Carthage, Texas, also have reopened their recruiting.

Arkansas now has seven commitments for the 2020 class. The early signing period is Dec. 18-20.

Burlsworth panel lists semifinalists

The Burlsworth Trophy selection committee announced its list of 10 semifinalists Tuesday.

The list includes Cal safety and kick returner Ashtyn Davis; UNC-Charlotte defensive end Alex Highsmith; UCLA running back Joshua Kelley; Georgia kicker Rodrigo Blankenship; Memphis tight end Joey Magnifico; Michigan State defensive end Kenny Willekes; Minnesota defensive lineman Sam Renner; Penn State linebacker Jan Johnson; San Jose State quarterback Josh Love; and Washington defensive back Myles Bryant.

The selection committee will release the three finalists for the trophy Tuesday. The finalists will be honored and the winner announced Dec. 9 at 12:45 p.m. at a luncheon in Springdale hosted by the Brandon Burlsworth Foundation and the Springdale Rotary Club.

The Burlsworth Trophy is given annually to the top player in college football who began his career as a walk-on. Burlsworth walked on at Arkansas without a Division I scholarship and became a three-year starter and an All-American in 1998. The Harrison native was selected as the 63rd pick in the 1999 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts, but died in a traffic accident 11 days later.

Henderson DB receives GAC honor

Henderson State University defensive back Mercardo Anderson was named defensive player of the week by the Great American Conference on Tuesday.

Anderson became only the second player in GAC history to claim three defensive player of the week awards in one season after he recorded a season-high 11 tackles in the Reddies' 38-31 victory against Southern Arkansas University. He added three tackles for loss and an interception on the game's final play. He leads the GAC with 13 tackles for loss.

UCA coach to resign

Jeni Jones Chatman will resign as the head coach at the University of Central Arkansas effective at the end of the season.

Chatman, who has coached the Bears since 2015, recently gave birth to a son and had been on maternity leave during the season while associate head coaches John Newberry and Marissa Collins ran the team. She is planning on spending more time with her family.

Chatman has led the Bears to 99 victories and an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2017. She had 10 players named to the Southland Conference's all-conference team, including two named Southland player of the year.

Chatman also coached the beach volleyball team, which started in 2017.

Harding sweeps Arkansas Tech

Harding University defeated Arkansas Tech University 25-19, 25-21, 25-20 on Tuesday night in Russellville.

Harding (19-9, 1-5 Great American Conference) was led by Kelli McKinnon, who had 14 kills. Sarah Morehead had 39 assists, and Emma Winiger had 20 digs.

Allie Anderson led Arkansas Tech (15-13, 6-7) with 11 kills.

Harding's McKinnon wins GAC award

Kelli McKinnon of Harding was named offensive player of the week by the Great American Conference on Tuesday.

McKinnon led the Lady Bisons to sweeps against Ouachita Baptist University and the University of Arkansas at Monticello, which helped land Harding in the GAC Tournament.

She notched 14 kills and hit .345 in a sweep of the Tigers. She followed up by registering 12 kills with a .478 attack percentage against the Blossoms.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Harding's Lampo wins weekly honor

Kellie Lampo of Harding University was named player of the week by the Great American Conference on Tuesday.

Lampo led the Lady Bisons to victories against Emporia State and Missouri Southern State at the Big Red Classic. She averaged 22.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks. She shot 54.2% from the floor.

MEN'S SOCCER

Ozarks players recognized

The University of the Ozarks had seven players receive all-conference honors and two freshman of the year awards from the American Southwest Conference on Tuesday.

Forward Charleus Ritch was named the offensive freshman of the year, and Alain Claude was named co-defensive freshman of the year. Ritch earned a spot on the All-ASC first team with sophomore midfielder Richard Souffrant, sophomore midfielder Drew Mott and junior goalkeeper Logan Valestin.

Claude was named to the all-ASC second team. Additionally, junior defender Juan Cano was named to the All-ASC second team and sophomore defender Truman Hensley was named to the All-ASC third team.

Williams Baptist loses conference title

Parker Moon scored five minutes into overtime to give Columbia College a 1-0 victory over Williams Baptist College in the finals of the American Midwest Conference Tournament in Columbia, Mo.

Williams Baptist (11-4-4) was outshot 17-16.
