Organ recital

Organist Janette Fishell, chairwoman of the organ department at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, will give a recital at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Christ Episcopal Church, 509 Scott St., Little Rock. It's part of the church's Arts@ChristChurch, opens a yearlong 30th-anniversary celebration for the church's Nichols-Simpson organ and is under the auspices of the Central Arkansas Chapter, American Guild of Organists.

The program includes the Passacaglia and Fugue in c minor, BWV 582, and the Chorale Prelude "Schmücke dich, o liebe Seele," BWV 654, by Johann Sebastian Bach; Danse Macabre by Camille Saint-Saëns, transcribed by Edwin Lemare; Choral in E major from Trois chorals pour orgue by Cesar Franck; Prelude, Adagio et Choral Varie sur le theme du Veni Creator, op.4, by Maurice Durufle; and works by Petr Eben, Ad Wammes and Lionel Rogg. Fiber art showcased

The fourth annual Fiber Arts Exhibition, showcasing original fiber art with what a news release describes as "fresh interpretations of traditional types of fiber art, including embroidery, quilting, dyeing, weaving and felting," goes on display with a 5-8 p.m. reception Friday at the Argenta Library Gallery, 420 Main St., North Little Rock. The reception will feature snacks and music by Vince Griffin. Admission to the reception and the exhibition, on display through Nov. 9, is free. Gallery hours are 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday. Matilda at Harding

The Harding University theater and music departments will stage Matilda (based on Roald Dahl's 1988 children's novel) live with a 13-piece orchestra as the annual Homecoming musical, 8 p.m. Friday-Saturday in Benson Auditorium at Harding, 915 E. Stuttgart 'Unplugged'

Homegrown classical

Linda Holzer, coordinator of classical piano studies at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, and four members of the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra — Sandra McDonald and Leanne Day-Simpson, violin; Katherine Reynolds, viola; and Rafael León, cello — will perform works by Arkansas-born composers Florence Price and William Grant Still, 3 p.m. Sunday in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall, Fine Arts Building, UALR, 2801 S. University Ave., Little Rock.

The program, titled "Two Creative Voices from Arkansas," will include Summerland by Still and, by Price: Fantasie Negre, Suite for Piano, "In the Land 'o Cotton," and the "Allegro non troppo" movement from the Piano Quintet in a minor.

AUDITIONS

Ragtime at Argenta

The Argenta Community Theater, 405 Main St., North Little Rock, will hold auditions for Ragtime: The Musical, 2-6 p.m. Oct. 27. Auditioners will be asked to sing 16 bars of a song that showcases their vocal range; music can be, but need not be, from the show but should have the same feel. Also expect cold readings from the script and a dance call.

Production dates are Feb. 18-29. Rehearsals will begin in mid-January. Auditions are open to performers of all genders, races and ethnicities; the cast of 30-36 will include 15 character roles plus featured and ensemble players.
