Outstanding examples of house and garden plants that thrive in Northwest Arkansas, colorful floral designs, autumn-themed decorated tables, nature and garden photography, and educational exhibits on native plants and space-efficient gardening were featured. Members of Floralia Arrangers Guild, Garden Club of Rogers, Conway Evening Garden Club, Benton County Master Gardeners, Master Naturalists and Bentonville/Bella Vista Photography Club also supported the show. The Bella Vista Garden Club continues its tradition of sponsoring award-winning flower shows. Having received five consecutive top awards for these events, the show again qualified to apply for the prestigious National Garden Club Flower Show Achievement Award.

Veterans

The McPherson Camp, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, will meet at 7 p.m. Oct. 21 at Foghorn's, 2221 W. Walnut St. in Rogers. The meal will be held at 6:30 p.m. Membership is open to male descendants of Union soldiers or sailors.

Patches

Pieces 'N Patches quilt group will meet at 10 p.m. Oct. 21 at First Presbyterian Church, 1901 S. 26th St. in Rogers. The workshop will be led by Lila Rostenberg and will feature collage quilting.

The group meets at 12:30 p.m. on the first Monday of each month for programs and at 10 a.m. on the third Monday for workshops. Visitors are welcome.

Democrats

Representatives from the Arkansas Democratic Black Caucus will join Washington County Democratic Women beginning at 6 p.m. Oct. 22 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Fayetteville. The program, "Stronger Together, Still," will focus on ways that all of the auxiliary groups can support and work together to elect Democratic candidates in 2020.

Social time begins at 5:30 p.m. A cash/credit card bar is available, and light snacks will be served. All are welcome. The purpose of Washington County Democratic Women is to present educational programming, encourage female candidates and provide a greater voice for all women.

Hill Hikers

The Ozark Hill Hikers Walking Club, a chapter of America's Walking Club, invites all club members and interested walkers to join for a 5K or 10K walk through Eureka Springs on Oct. 23. The walk highlights the many springs, beautiful flower gardens and the Victorian and turn-of-the 20th century architecture found in its homes and businesses.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Best Western Inn of the Ozarks, 207 W. Van Buren in Eureka Springs.

Civil War

The Northwest Arkansas Civil War Roundtable will meet at 7 p.m. Oct. 24 at the General Store on the grounds of the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History, 118 W. Johnson Ave. in Springdale. The program will be "The Life of the Common Soldier," presented by Daniel Barrett. The meeting is open to anyone with an interest in Civil War history.

QUILT

Quilters United in Learning Together will meet at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 24 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 2898 S. 48th St. in Springdale. The guest speaker will be Judy Bowers. Guests may attend for $5 per person.

QUILT will host Judy Bower's Twinkle Star workshop from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 25 and 26 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church NWA, 2901 E. Zion Road in Fayetteville. Registration is required.

Eastern Star

The Bentonville Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 295, is holding a ham and bean fall fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 25 at the Bentonville Masonic Lodge, 805 N.W. Eighth St. in Bentonville.

Prices are $6 for adults and $3 for children younger than 7.

MUFON

The Northwest Arkansas Chapter of the Mutual UFO Network will meet from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 26 in the meeting room at Drake Field, 4500 S. School St. in Fayetteville. The meeting is open to anyone interested in the UFO phenomenon.

Cut Ups

The Calico Cut Ups will meet from 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 28 at the First United Methodist Church in Bella Vista. Barbara Eikmeier will be the guest presenter. She is a fabric designer and a blueprint instructor from Lansing, Kan., and is the author of four quilting books. Eikmeier will be speaking starting at 1 p.m. She will be presenting a program titled "Random Block Sampler" with a trunk show of sampler quilts made with blocks of many sizes. She will present examples and demonstrate how to convert block collections into quilts.

Eikmeier will have a vendor table from noon to 1 p.m. with a variety of her patterns, rulers and books available for purchase.

The business meeting and show-and-tell will be held from 2 to 3 p.m.

Prior to the meeting the group will start the day with a workshop from 9 a.m. to noon. The cost for the workshop is $25 for members and $35 for nonmembers (plus a $13 ruler from the instructor used in the workshop). The focus of the workshop will be making units for odd spaces that occur when combining blocks of different sizes into a single quilt. Advance registration is required.

Travelers

The Bella Vista Travel Club will meet at 6 p.m. Oct. 28 at First United Methodist Church, 20 Boyce Drive in Bella Vista. Jeff Woods from Collette Tours will be the guest speaker and will speak about a trip to the Holy Land.

Upcoming trips include a trip to Israel, a Caribbean cruise and trip to Cancun, Mexico.

Nurses

The Retired Nurses of Northwest Arkansas will meet at noon Oct. 29 at Northwest Medical Center in Bentonville in classroom A. An optional lunch can be purchased across the hall at the Allspice Café beginning at 11:15 a.m.

The noon presentation by Leon Lieutard, EMS coordinator for the Bella Vista Fire and EMS department, will talk about an update on CPR and fire safety in the home.

Civil War

The Bella Vista Civil War Roundtable will meet at 7 p.m. Nov. 7 at the Bella Vista Historical Society Museum, U.S. 71 and Kingsland Drive, next to the American Legion.

The guest speaker will be Matt Mulheran from Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park. He will be covering the battle which took place Dec. 7, 1862. Prairie Grove is a well-preserved battlefield with interpretive signing around a 1-mile walking tour. An excellent museum also provides an informative video. Mulheran's talk will encourage visits to this local historic site to learn more about this important Civil War battle.

The roundtable is open to the public, and there is no fee.

Radio Club

The Little Switzerland Amateur Radio Club will meet at 2 p.m. Nov. 9 in the day room at Mercy Hospital, 214 Carter St. in Berryville. Anyone interested in ham radio is welcome to attend.

The club offers technician, general and amateur extra class tests at noon on the second Saturday of each month. Participants must have a reservation and a current valid amateur radio license or an FCC registration number. Register at least a week before the second Saturday. The test fee is $15.

PEO

PEO Chapter BR is offering handcrafted arrangements of fresh greens and berries for holiday mailboxes or door swags. Proceeds from the sale will make a difference in women's lives through PEO's philanthropic projects that provide higher education assistance. The cost of $15 includes delivery and installation in Bella Vista. A distribution location for Rogers and Bentonville orders has been arranged on Dec. 7. Sales deadline is Nov. 18, and delivery is Dec. 6-7.

Perfect Harmony women's barbershop chorus meets from 4 to 5:30 p.m. each Monday in the choir room of the United Lutheran Church of Bella Vista, 100 Cooper Road. No previous experience or tryouts are required to join. Women of all ages and voice ranges are welcome to experience barbershop singing.
