Event to show plans for street drainage

The city's staff will present plans Thursday for street-drainage improvements in Little Rock's 3rd Ward.

The open forum-style public meeting will introduce residents to the plans for improvements along Valentine Street from West Markham Street to West Third Street.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Capitol View/Stifft Station Neighborhood Resource Center.

Parking-app deal approved by board

Visitors to downtown Little Rock will have a new option to pay for parking by the end of the year.

The city board on Tuesday authorized a contract between Little Rock and ParkMobile LLC, allowing the city to charge people for parking via smartphone app if the people choose that option over coin-operated or electronic meters.

The app charges a 30-cent user fee to people who use it to pay. The city's traditional meters will remain in place.

Cleanup program receives extension

The Little Rock Board of Directors has voted to grant a yearlong extension to a pilot program that puts panhandlers to work cleaning up city streets.

A Bridge to Work, the product of a partnership with Canvas Community Church, began in April. The pilot program, endowed with $80,000 in funding from the city, offered $9.25 in cash an hour for picking up litter as a way to connect people in need with social services.

City directors voted Tuesday to extend the program through September 2020. It will get approximately $160,000 in funding, City Manager Bruce Moore said.
