Jazmene McMillan is used to traveling for school after commuting from her home in Mayflower to Pulaski Academy in Little Rock.

For college, McMillan is leaving Arkansas to attend Loyola University in New Orleans, where she will continue her basketball career.

The Loyola coaching staff saw McMillan play in February when Pulaski Academy faced Mills at home. McMillan was impressed with Loyola and said she enjoys New Orleans.

"It's a whole new world and experience for me," she said. "I'm super excited about it."

At Loyola, McMillan plans on joining the pre-law program. She wants to attend Loyola's law school after graduation.

She earned a 4.56 GPA and scored a 31 on the ACT. She played basketball and softball at Pulaski Academy.

McMillan served as senior class vice president and was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Spanish Club, Debate Club, Writing Club and the school's Diversity Council.

McMillan said she was determined to do well in the classroom.

"I took a study hall," she said. "Some people would nap or do something else in study hall. I used the study hall to my advantage.

"During the school day, I'd never be on the phone. I'd keep it in my backpack so I wouldn't be tempted to use it."
