IMMORTAL FAN FICTION "My Immortal" is a 2003 hit song by Evanescence, the rock band co-founded by singer-songwriter Amy Lee.

"My Immortal" is also the title of an infamous work of "Harry Potter" online fan fiction from 2006 about a time-traveling, vampire-witch named Ebony Dark'ness Dementia Raven Way who is obsessed with Evanescence and similar bands and is a sworn enemy of "preps."

It is side-splittingly hilarious in a so-awful-it's-good sort of way -- like watching an Ed Wood film -- and its author may have been a teenage girl named Tara, though some believe the whole thing was an elaborate joke.

It's hard to tell (and hard to share excerpts because of all the misspellings, cussing, weirdness and sometimes disturbing imagery. Also, the comedy is thoroughly lost when portions are removed from their original context).

Last week, an interview with Lee -- who spent her teenage years in Maumelle -- about the "My Immortal" fan fiction was posted at theverge.com.

Lee had never read the story, but said it was a recurring subject during holiday family gatherings, when her sister would bring it up and read passages from it aloud.

"It's one of her favorite things that she thinks is the most hilarious thing in the world, and I still just kept not reading it," she said in the interview. "It's been kind of this ongoing joke with us."

Lee told Verge.com that she finally checked it out before doing the interview.

"I read I think not quite half of it, but it did have me in tears. I was laughing really, really hard at one point, just because of the nonsense. And then I started asking myself, is this real? I can't quite tell. I'm totally undecided. Is it sincere?"

No idea, but it's available to read, if you dare, at https://www.fanfiction.net/s/6829556/2/My-Immortal.

KARI FAUX RISING And speaking of interviews with Arkansas musicians, a chat with Little Rock rapper Kari Faux was posted July 2 at Pitchfork.com for its Rising series on new artists.

Writer Hubert Adjei-Kontoh, referring to Faux's most recent release, the April mixtape "Lowkey Superstar," said: "In just 16 minutes, Faux offers spoken-word over ambient melodies and flexes over hard-hitting beats. She can be tough, weak, and humorous in the span of a bar. ... A project like this allows her to display her multiplicity."

Faux, born Kari Rose Johnson, came back to Little Rock from Los Angeles when the pandemic hit. She spoke with Pitchfork about her influences, which range from OutKast to Santigold to Blondie and growing up in Little Rock.

"You just made the most of what you had," she said. "I appreciated growing up here because it made me resourceful in the ways of self-expression or just being creative overall."
