Inmate, 25, dies in cell at Tucker Unit

An inmate at the Tucker Unit prison southeast of Little Rock died of an apparent suicide during the early hours of Saturday morning, according to the Arkansas Department of Corrections.

Corrections Department spokeswoman Dina Tyler wrote in a news release on Sunday that corrections officers found 25-year-old Christopher Potts hanging from a vent in his cell at the Maximum Security Unit, where he was serving an 18-year sentence for commercial burglary, theft by receiving, third-degree escape and possession of drugs and firearms.

Potts had draped a blanket across the cell's entrance, Tyler said.

Lifesaving efforts were attempted, Tyler said, but the Jefferson County coroner pronounced Potts dead in the unit's infirmary.

Arkansas State Police are investigating his death, Tyler said.
