Veterans

The Springdale Veterans Memorial Organization is now conducting an online auction to raise money to erect a veterans memorial at J.B. Hunt Park in Springdale.

The group hopes to raise at least $10,000 toward the construction of the memorial. Numerous items of sports, military, patriotic and music memorabilia are offered, as well as seven trip packages.

The auction link is available on the SVMO website, svmo72762.org. The deadline for bids is Dec. 15 at 11:59 p.m. The website also gives extensive information about the organization and the proposed memorial.

The Springdale Veterans Organization is a 501(c)3 nonprofit designed to raise funds, build and maintain a memorial to our veterans.

Civil War

The Bella Vista Civil War Roundtable will meet at 7 p.m. Dec. 3 at the American Legion Hall, 1889 Bella Vista Way. The program will be presented by Bob Underdown, who will be speaking on "Christmas In The Civil War." Covid-19 protocols will be observed during the meeting with masks required and safely placed seating.

Book Forum

The Omni Center is holding an online Climate Change Book Forum at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 6 via gotomeeting. The subject for the forum will be the Green New Deal and what can be done individually and as a community.

Dick Bennett will present Jane Fonda's activist account of her Washington, D.C., Fire Drill Fridays for the climate in "What Can I Do?"

Lolly Tindol will present on Christiana Figueres' "The Future We Choose." She was the UN's past head of the IPCC and gives a very positive wish list to address climate change.

Our final activity for the Forum for the year will be to discuss what Ms. Fonda and Ms. Figueres recommend.

Andante

Andante Music Club of Bella Vista invites the public to their Christmas meeting at 1 p.m. Dec. 1 in the Fellowship Hall of Highland Christian Church, 1500 Forest Hills Blvd. in Bella Vista. The program will feature pianist Garth Smith, violinist Cami Austin and vocalist Lindsay Burnett. All attendees must wear masks. Social distancing will be observed. The event is free and open to the public.

Perfect Harmony

Perfect Harmony Women's Barbershop Chorus, will not meet during December but will resume in January. The group will meet from 3:30 to 5 p.m. every Monday in the Fellowship Hall of the Highland Christian Church,1500 Forest Hills in Bella Vista. Social distancing, temperatures taken, mask wearing and sanitizing work area will be observed. No previous experience or tryouts are required to join. Women of all ages and voice ranges are invited.

Writers Guild

The Siloam Springs Writers Guild will celebrate Christmas with a musical program at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 14 at First Baptist Church, 2000 Dawn Hill Road. Please enter from the west side parking lot. Anyone interested in writing is welcome to attend and bring a musical instrument.

Poetry and prose assignments for December are on the topic "The Day After Christmas." Poetry may be in any form up to 32 lines; prose must be double-spaced in Times New Roman Font, up to 750 words. Assignments are to be emailed to sswgsisp@gmail.com between Nov. 20 and Dec. 1.

Legion Post 29

American Legion Post 29 will play bingo at the Siloam Springs Community Building on Monday evenings. Doors open at 5 p.m., and Early Bird games start at 5:30. The regular games will follow. Everyone 18 and older is invited.

Gentry Lions

Members of the Gentry Lions Club are having a jacket and mittens donation drive. They are asking for new or slightly used items for elementary school students in the Decatur school district. Drop-off locations are at the library and at the Decatur Ace Hardware store.

The club will meet Dec. 3 at the Gallery Cafe. All business owners and residents who are interested in helping others in their community are invited to come, meet and greet.

SSRH Auxiliary

Siloam Springs Regional Hospital Auxiliary is looking for willing volunteers for the information desk, obstetrics department, radiology department, surgery department and materials management. The Auxiliary offers an opportunity to help the community while working three or four hours a week.

Dogwood Literacy

It is rewarding to be able to assist those trying to improve their literacy skills in order to help their families. The Dogwood Literacy Council in Siloam Springs is in need of more volunteers who would like to become a tutor. Training and materials will be provided.

Tailwaggers

Tailwaggers is seeking volunteers to walk dogs and socialize cats at the City of Siloam Springs Animal Shelter. They are also in need of donations of chewies, rawhides, cat toys and dog harnesses for the animal shelter. Donations can be dropped off at the animal shelter located at 1300 E. Ashley St.
