committee formed
The University of Arkansas System has created a 15-person committee to search for the next chancellor of the University of Arkansas Community College at Hope-Texarkana, the system announced Friday.
The committee, which will be joined by three additional non-voting members, consists of college officials, UA System board of trustees chairman John Goodson and leaders within the two cities, including their mayors.
The college enrolled 864 students this fall, down 9% from last fall, at its campuses in Hope and Texarkana.
Those numbers don't include the few hundred concurrently enrolled high school students who have taken courses at the college in recent years.
The previous chancellor, Chris Thomason, left the position July 6 to take a job with the UA System office in Cammack Village, as vice president of development and planning.
Laura Clark, vice chancellor of academic affairs, is the interim chancellor.
John Hollis, dean of institutional effectiveness at the college and a 25-year campus employee, will lead the search committee.
UCA to use $3M
for arts program
A $3 million grant to the University of Central Arkansas will help construct and maintain a new arts building and support art education programming, the university announced Friday.
The Alice L. Walton Foundation provided the money, related to the new Windgate Center for Fine and Performing Arts. Money for the center, on which workers broke ground Friday, comes from a previously announced $20 million gift from the Windgate Foundation.
Both foundations have given millions of dollars to multiple Arkansas universities to support art education and programming.
The $3 million Alice L. Walton Foundation gift will be split evenly among three projects: remaining construction of the building, facility maintenance once its built and art education programming.
