Judge denies release of man suspected of shooting house

LITTLE ROCK -- A man who is accused of carrying out a threat to "shoot up" the home of a man who asked him to stop selling drugs in front of the house must remain in federal custody partly because of that incident, a federal judge said Monday.

Dalvin Dejone Pettus, 27, is facing charges of terroristic acts and terroristic threatening in Pulaski County Circuit Court as a result of the Aug. 16, 2018, shooting of a house on South Gaines Street, but he is also facing federal charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition on April 1, 2018, and possession with intent to distribute both marijuana and cocaine on Aug. 3, 2018.

On Monday, he appeared via video-conference from the Pulaski County jail before U.S. Magistrate Judge Tom Ray, asking to be released from custody pending his Oct. 26 trial on the federal charges.

Pettus' attorney, Federal Public Defender Bruce Eddy of Fayetteville, said Pettus would agree to live with the mother of his young son in Little Rock while awaiting trial.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Amanda Fields opposed Pettus' release, however, saying he poses too much of a danger to the community, and Ray sided with her.
