AmeriCorps, a volunteer civil society program, will have its Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service on Monday.

AmeriCorps members and alumni, as well as community volunteers, will be doing outdoor service at the St. Joseph Center at 6800 Camp Robinson Road. The project will include clearing land for a garden and preparing gardens for spring.

Volunteers are asked to bring water, gloves and tools such as weed-eaters and rakes. Masks are required, and volunteers will be spread out over a large area, according to an AmeriCorps event page.

Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. or volunteers can sign up at VolunteerAR.org. Lunch to-go will be provided.

Black experiences

war exhibit focus

A "Fighting for the Right to Fight: African-Americans in World War 2" exhibit will soon be on display at the University of Arkansas-Pulaski Technical College's Windgate Gallery.

It's a multimedia exhibit highlighting the experiences and struggles of Black people during the war and will be on display Jan. 19 to April 2, according to a news release from the college.

The centerpiece of the exhibit is an original eight-minute video about the Tuskegee Airmen, who were the first Black military aviators in the U.S. Armed Forces.

The exhibit is presented by the National WWII Museum in New Orleans and sponsored by Abbot Downing and Wells Fargo.

The Windgate Gallery is at 300 W. Scenic Dr. Admission is free.
