Helaine Palmer Williams -- Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Sunday Style editor, columnist and regular contributor to the High Profile section, was honored Saturday as the 77th inductee of the Arkansas Writers Hall of Fame.

She joins an elite group of writers that includes Charles Portis, John Grisham, Charlaine Harris, Miller Williams, Grif Stockley, Jack Butler, Dee Brown, Kevin Brockmeier and Ellen Gilchrist.

Williams began her writing career in 1981 as a city desk assistant at the newspaper, writing obituaries and performing clerical duties. About two years later, she became a consumer affairs reporter with her column "Actions and Answers." Four years later, she became the bridal editor, as well as a features reporter.

Her column "Let's Talk" is it its 32nd year. She also writes feature stories, High Profile cover stories and news about parties. In January, she was promoted to Sunday Style editor.

"I am so honored to be counted as worthy to be among those 'titans of the written word' who received this honor in previous years. Of course it's a blessing to be recognized for doing what I love," Williams said.

Williams has also contributed to several books, as well as edited others.
