NAACP sets a membership meeting

The Pine Bluff NAACP Branch will hold its regular monthly membership meeting via Zoom at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 11, according to a news release.

Simmons names new board member

Simmons First National Corp. has added Julie Stackhouse to the company's board of directors. Stackhouse has also been added to the board of directors of the company's wholly-owned subsidiary bank, Simmons Bank, according to the Wednesday announcement.

Stackhouse is a former executive vice president at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, where she was responsible for, among other things, bank regulation, including supervision of bank holding companies and state member banks.

"We are thrilled to welcome Julie to our organization," said George A. Makris Jr., Simmons' chairman and chief executive officer. "Julie brings incredible insight and a tremendous understanding of our industry from her many years of working with financial institutions, and I am confident that she will be a valuable contributor as a member of our board."

Rural business virtual event slated

The Arkansas Human Development Corp. will host the 2021 Southeast Arkansas Rural Business Development Conference from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. March 12 in virtual and live settings, according to a news release.

VA drops virus shots age limit to 50

The Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System has updated its covid-19 vaccination priority group. Veterans must already receive care at VA or be eligible to receive care at VA to receive the covid-19 vaccine, according to a news release.

As of March 2, eligible veterans include those 50 and older; high-risk veterans such as those in the VA Community Living Center and other congregate living settings, homeless veterans, hemodialysis patients, transplant patients, those with spinal cord injuries, those with unstable diabetes, and chemotherapy patients; veterans employed as essential front-line workers (ages 18 and older); and veterans younger than 50 with underlying medical conditions.

Eligible veterans can call 501-257-1978 or 888-357-1978 to schedule an appointment. Mobile vaccination teams also cover eight community-based outpatient clinics at Pine Bluff and El Dorado on Wednesdays; Hot Springs clinics on Mondays; Russellville and Searcy clinics on Tuesdays; Conway and Mena clinics on Thursdays; and Mountain Home clinic and Day Treatment Center on Fridays.
