PB school district sets spring break

The Pine Bluff School District will be closed March 22-26 for spring break. Classes will resume March 29, according to a news release.

New Life Church cancels food event

The food box distribution at New Life Church on Tuesday was canceled. The church planned to give away food from the Farmers to Families Food Drive. All the food trucks from this agency were canceled for the state of Arkansas because there is a problem at the distribution site, Mary Liddell, community outreach coordinator, said in a news release.

2 local pantries giving away food

Two area food pantries will be open this week, according to a news release from Mary Liddell, community outreach coordinator.

Pursuit Church/Transformation Project Food Pantry, 1400 Centennial Lane at White Hall, will give away food from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday.

Cherry Street AME Zion Church, 800 S. Cherry St., gives away food every Monday through Thursday, from 4:15-5:30 p.m. The church serves a grab-and-go sack meal consisting of an entree, vegetable, chips, cheese stick, juice and milk on a first come, first served basis.

Corps issues small craft advisory

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is issuing a small craft advisory for the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System in Arkansas. Rainfall this weekend in eastern Oklahoma is causing flows on the system to rise, according to a news release.

Small craft advisories are issued when flows exceed 70,000 cubic feet per second. Strong currents and large debris can threaten the safety of pleasure craft during high flows. River flows at Van Buren have risen above 90,000 cubic feet per second and continue to rise. Flows exceeding 100,000 cubic feet per second will make its way downstream throughout the week.
