ASTRONOMY: Eclipse presentations

Kim Williams, with Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage and Tourism, will give an informational presentation titled "Solar Eclipse 2024 in Arkansas" — regarding the total solar eclipse April 8, 2024, that will be visible to everyone in Arkansas — at 9 a.m. Aug. 23 at the Arkansas Regional Innovation Hub, 204 E. Fourth St., North Little Rock. Sponsor is the North Little Rock Convention & Visitors Bureau. Admission is free; RSVP by Thursday to Anna Strack, anna@northlittlerock.org.

Meanwhile, astronomer Phil Plait has rescheduled his presentation on the eclipse, "Phil Plait Presents Eclipse Across America," for 7 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Ron Robinson Theater, 100 River Market Ave., Little Rock. The talk, originally scheduled for July 20, was rescheduled due to rising covid-19 numbers in Central Arkansas.

It's a joint presentation of the Central Arkansas Astronomical Society and the Central Arkansas Library System. Admission is free. Doors open at 6 p.m.; beer, wine, and concessions will be sold. Plait will sign copies of his books "Bad Astronomy" and "Death from the Skies!" after the presentation.

Plait, who spent a decade working on Hubble Space Telescope data and promoting science from a half dozen different NASA astronomical satellites, produces a blog, "Bad Astronomy," that covers scientific events on Earth all the way out to the edge of the observable universe.
