SPRINGDALE -- A national publication has named the Tyson School of Innovation's esports team as one of the 10 best high school esports programs in the nation.

USA Today published the list last week. The ranking was compiled by looking at the best esports teams since 2019 based on overall data tallied by PlayVS, according to USA Today.

Tyson School of Innovation tied for 10th in the ranking with six other schools. Brophy College Preparatory in Phoenix and Shrewsbury (Mass.) High School tied for first.

Burl Sniff, the Tyson school's esports coach, said his team is a four-time state champion for League of Legends. The team also represented Arkansas and placed first in the region for the first PlayVS cup in 2020, the largest national esports tournament for high schools, according to a Springdale School District news release.

Sniff said team members have received multiple scholarship opportunities through their participation in the team, the release states.

With games such as Madden NFL, Rocket League and League of Legends, esports has grown to include high school students from throughout the nation, according to USA Today.
