Sheriff’s deputies late Friday arrested a teenager after, they say, he fatally shot his neighbor in southern Pulaski County. The killing, which reportedly followed a dispute, marked the 10th homicide investigated by Pulaski County sheriff's deputies this year, a new record.

Makel Lowery, 18, faces a capital murder charge and was being held in the Pulaski County jail late Friday.

Deputies responding to a report of a shooting around 1:30 p.m. Friday found Frank Lloyd, 55, shot several times at his residence on 3525 Tony Road, according to incident and arrest reports. The residence is about 6 miles south-southeast of the Interstate 30/Interstate 530 interchange and about 3 miles north of Wrightsville.

Lloyd told deputies that a neighbor — later identified as Lowery — shot him after an argument. Lloyd was taken to an area hospital but died of his wounds.

Detectives spoke to Lowery, who lives at 3715 Tony Road. Authorities said that after Lowery was read his rights, he told them that he had a confrontation with Lloyd and returned with a gun.

Lowery faces a capital murder charge and was being held in the Pulaski County jail late Friday.

The slaying marks the 10th homicide investigated by the sheriff's office in 2022. The previous record of nine killings in the county was first set in 2016 and then matched in 2020.
