John Lewis "Big John" Gober

John Lewis "Big John" Gober, 80, of Waldron, Arkansas passed from this life Saturday, July 31, 2010 in a Waldron, Arkansas hospital. John was born in Redfield, Arkansas on February 20, 1930 to the late Rev. Gideon Jackson Gober and Rosa (Bateman) Gober. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy on October 14, 1954 and was awarded the following service ribbons, National Defense, China, Good Conduct, United Nations and Korean Service. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, NRA, and Farm Bureau. He was a retired sheet rock hanger and farm-ranch owner. John is survived by one daughter Becky Ann Gober of Waldron, Arkansas; two step-daughters, Brenda Kay Wilson Tipton and husband Sam of Little Rock, Arkansas, Donna Lynn Wilson French and husband Velton of Benbrook, Texas; four grandchildren, Troop Benton Bryant of Conway, Arkansas, John David Simpson of Waldron, Arkansas, Robert Dane Reed and wife Holly of Whitehall, Arkansas, and Jonathan Keith Gober and partner Mark Norwine of Little Rock, Arkansas. He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo Gober; one daughter, Leenita Sue Gober Cothran; two sisters, Madgeline Gober Harper and Anna Sue Gober Tornow. John's funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, August 7, 2010 at the Heritage Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Jordon, officiating. A second funeral service will be at 4 p.m., Saturday, at the Redfield Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Micah Deaton, officiating. Interment will follow in the Redfield Cemetery, with military honors in Redfield, Arkansas. Arrangement are being entrusted to the Heritage Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory in Waldron, Arkansas. His pallbearers in Waldron will be Thomas Boggus, Ted Johnston, Joe Wigdon, Mike Wright, Brian Parsons, and Mack Lee. Pallbearers in Redfield will be Robert Crossett, Wade Hall, Brian Parsons, Mike Wright, Johnny (Bubba) Polk and Eddie Sandifer. Honorary pallbearer will be Keith Wright.
