Jerry V. "J.V." Phillips, 78, of Benton, passed away Sunday, August 29, 2010. He was born March 12, 1932 to the late James Monroe and Naomi (Williams) Phillips in Benton. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Benton. He was a deacon at Salem Baptist Church for many years and served in a leadership role. Also, he went to Brazil on a mission trip from the church to assist building a church there. He served as President of the first Bryant Band Booster Club and was active in the Bryant Athletic Club and he did play football for Benton. Jerry was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He worked at Alcoa for 30 years as a pipe fitter and as a maintenance supervisor. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Fay (Bolick) Phillips; sons Jerry Michael and wife Tambra Phillips of Morehead, Ky., Timothy Jay Phillips of Beaumont, Texas; daughter Debra Nantze, widow of Joe Allen Nantze of Benton; grandchildren, Mandy and Shawn Hill of Sheridan, Nathan and Mauree Nantze of Fayetteville, Amanda and James Nowlin of Morehead, Ky., Christopher Phillips of Fayetteville, Travis and Drew Phillips of Benton; step-granddaughter Amanda Smothers, also of Benton; eight great-grandchildren, Ashton, Luke and Lainey Hill, Miles, Jonas and Silas Nantze, Bentley and Eric Nowlin. Also surviving are a brother, Monroe Phillips of Benton and a sister, Pat Burchfield of Little Rock. Graveside services are scheduled for Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at 11:30 a.m., at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander with Dr. Rick Grant and Bro. Bob Endel officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 31, 2010 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Roller-Ballard Funeral Home (315-4047). The family requests memorials be made to The American Cancer Society, 901 N.
