Lawrence "Larry" Edmond Blasche, 79, of Hot Springs Village passed away on Nov. 30, 2010 in Hot Springs, AR. Larry was born in Kansas City, Kan., Sept. 24, 1931 to Asa L. Blasche & Lena Davis Blasche. Larry was a graduate of Pace University in New York. He married Mary Alice Larson on October 4, 1952. Mary preceded him in death in 1998. Larry was a U.S. Army Korean War Veteran. He owned and operated The Little Knoll Green Houses in Kansas City, Kan. in the mid 1950's. Larry began work at IBM in Kansas City, Mo. in 1957. He held executive positions in Kansas City, Mo.; Charlotte, N.C.; Los Angeles, Calif.; Denver, Colo.; San Franscisco, Calif.; & Dallas, Texas. He retired from IBM after 32 years. Larry served on the National Board of Directors, Camp Fire Girls Inc., and was given the highest National Camp Fire award, in 1957. In 1991 Larry and his wife, Mary, moved to Hot Springs Village. He was chairman of the Hot Springs Garland County Beautification Commission while the first landscape/design for the city of Hot Springs was formed. He was a docent for Garvan Botanical Gardens, when it could only be reached by boat. He and his wife, Darlene, are charter members there. Larry was a member of the Mid America Science Museum's Board of Directors. Larry served four years as Chair of Business Services for Christ Lutheran Church. Larry became a charter member and the first president of the Men's Village Garden Club. He received the Sam Norwood Outstanding Service Award for 2010. At his death, Larry was Vice President of the Arkansas Federation of Garden Clubs. He was a member of Village United Methodist Church. Surivivors include his wife Darlene, daughters Candy Thralchavee (Wanchaii), Laurel Nolan, Sheryl Pavlak(Mark), & two brothers, Gerald Blasche & Stephen Blasche. He leaves six grandchildren, two stepsons, one stepdaughter, five step-grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. on December 5, 2010 at Cedar Vale Funeral Home, Hot Springs Village. Funeral Services will be 10 a.m., December 6, 2010 at Village United Methodist Church, Hot Springs Village. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Arkansas Hospice.
