Jay Shirley Shupe

Jay Shirley Shupe, 92, passed away Tuesday, December 7, 2010, in Stuttgart, Arkansas. She was born May 17, 1918 in Stuttgart, to Sidney George Brain and Sarah Elizabeth Clark Brain. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 69 years, Nuel Shupe; two brothers, Francis Brain and Sidney George Brain Jr.; and four sisters, Mary Elizabeth Brain, Patty Brain, Sarah Crume and Lois Wheat. She is survived by one sister, Dora Roth of Stuttgart; two sons, C. Michael Shupe and wife Mary of Rogers and Phillip N. Shupe and wife Pat of North Little Rock; five grandchildren, Joy Granade and husband, Andrew of Overland Park, Kansas, Heather Benton and her husband, Adam, of North Little Rock, Shelly Shupe of Pasadena, California, Matthew Shupe of Rogers, Leslie Crum and her husband Dale of Rogers; and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by 12 nieces and nephews. She was a wonderful, sweet and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She was delightful to be with and a joy to her family and friends. Her grandchildren will always cherish the fun times they shared with her traveling, playing games and reading stories. She was a member of First Baptist Church and served in many capacities. She was also a volunteer with the hospital auxiliary. Funeral services are 1:30 p.m., Saturday at First Baptist Church with burial following in Lone Tree Cemetery.
