Tobie White`

Tobie White, age 87, of Des Arc passed away Monday, December 13, 2010 at the Des Arc Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where he had been a resident for the past eighteen months. Tobie was born December 3, 1923 in Culp, Arkansas to the late Perry Lorraine Pinkston White and George Allen White. He was dearly loved and will be forever missed by his family. Mr. White is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara Helen Atkins White of Des Arc; two sons, Randall (Jill) White of Huntsville, Texas; Michael (Scarlette) White of Crossett, Arkansas; two daughters, Marilyn (Jeff) Files of Des Arc, Mary White of Lonoke, Arkansas. He leaves behind one sister, Marie White Braham and one brother, Melvin (Dorothy) White, both residents of Des Arc. He also leaves six grandchildren and one great-grandchild to cherish his memory; April and Stuart Van Houten; Ross White; Hayden Hambrick; Logan, Colin, Stephanie, Lexie White and Phoebe Branham. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Pat White of Des Arc, and two sisters, Millie Mc Call and Esther O'Dell, both of Little Rock, Arkansas. Tobie was proud to serve in the United States Army during World War II in both the Pacific and European Theaters, where he was a member of Company "B" 17th Armored Engineer Battalion, the 361st Engineer Special Service Regiment, and the 175th Infantry Regiment. He received a purple heart on July 4th, 1945 for injuries received in Campaign Normandy on June 28th, 1944. After serving his country he was a farmer for many years, and later worked for Central Structures in Little Rock until his retirement in 1986. Tobie was a quiet man with a wonderful sense of humor who loved his family, nature and all living things. He was an avid reader who loved learning and knowledge, and was current with all world events. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 15th, 2010, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Garth Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, December 16th, 2010 at Garth Funeral Home with the Rev. Melvin York officiating. Interment will be at Sandhill Cemetery following the graveside service. Pallbearers are Stuart Van Houten, Michael Atkins, Ray Twardeski, Hayden and Tony Hambrick, and Manuel Holcomb.
