William Brooks Clower, Sr.

William Brooks Clower, Sr. William Brooks (Bill) Clower, Sr. passed away July 10th 2010. He was 80 years old. Bill was reared in Monticello Arkansas and was a football, basketball, and track athlete. A 4-H Club member, his project was swine production from which he and his younger brother, John, developed a small commercial program which helped finance his college education. He attended A&M College where he played football before transferring to the University of Arkansas where graduated in Animal Science in 1952. At the U of A, he was a member of the Animal Science livestock judging team, was a member of Alpha Zeta, and the Animal Industry Club. He received his M.S. degree studying swine nutrition in 1953. He was a nutritionist for Swanson and Sons Feed and Hatchery Division, and then for Campbell soup Company after Campbell soup purchased the company. He was a poultry nutritionist, moving to manager of mill and farm operations until 1970. From 1970 until his retirement in 1996 he rose from poultry research associate to senior poultry research manager for Campbell Soup Company. A recognized leader in his field, he served as President of the Arkansas Feed Manufacturer's Association and was cofounder and President of the Arkansas Poultry Nutrition Council. After his retirement, he has worked with his cattle operation he started in 1964. He was recognized as a "Distinguished Graduate" from the Department of Animal Sciences, University of Arkansas in 2009. Bill has been married to his wife, Janet, for 57 years They have three children William Brooks Clower Jr., Nancy Elizabeth Clower, and Anne Jackson Clower. They also have two grandchildren William Brooks Clower III, and Evan Asbury Clower, who lovingly refer to their grandfather as "Big Graddy." He and his wife, Janet, have been members of Central United Methodist Church since 1952. Bill was also a member of the Fayetteville Rotary Club since 1953. Visitation services will be held at Moore's Chapel Tuesday, July 13th 2010 from 5-7 p.m. Memorial services will be held at Central United Methodist Church Wednesday, July 14th 2010 at 3 p.m. Private family interment will be in Fairview Memorial Gardens.
