Mrs. Novelle Bond Clark, 89, of Pine Bluff, formerly of Charleston, Ark., passed away Friday, July 23, 2010, in Springdale, Ark. She was born Nov. 30, 1920, in Charleston to Earl Bond and Myrtle Gray Bond. She married Edward Miller Clark in Nov. 1954; was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Pine Bluff, Ark.; She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband; infant twin daughters, Reneya and Milleya Clark; her sister, Virginia Gray Stewart; nephew, Peter Douglas Steward; and step-daughter, Penny Elkins; and step-son Richard White. Graveside service was at 11 o'clock Saturday, July 24. Graveside at Nixon Cemetery with Rev. Bill Buchanan officiating and under the direction of Smith Mortuary, Charleston, Ark. She is survived by one daughter, Bonnie "Eddie" Strade of Monticello, Fla.; two nieces, Rebecca Shahalemi of Philadelphia and Priscilla Osborne of Boston, Mass.; five grandchildren, numerous great and great-great-grandchildren; and loving friends, the David Breshears family. She graduated from Charleston High School in Charleston, Ark.; attended Arkansas State Teachers College from 1938-1949; UA, Fayetteville, BS in Home Economics, 1942; UA, Fayetteville graduate work towards master's in sociology and home management; she was County Extension Agent – Home Economics Leader; worked in Pulaski, Izard, Lawrence and Jefferson counties where she served for over 30 years before retiring in 1985; served as home economics adviser for C & L Electric Coop; prior to becoming a home demonstration agent, she taught school in Waldo, Ark., and Morepark, Calif., and served as the Cafeteria Manager at Fort Chaffee army base; she was a member of Epsilon Sigma Phi; American Association of Home Economists – Distinguished Service Award 1965; Arkansas Extension Home Economist Association, treasurer 1961-1962, state president 1964-1965, Distinguished Service Award 1966; nominated and listed in Personalities of the South, honoring outstanding individuals in 14 southern states; member of the Arkansas Women's Committee on Public Affairs; wrote a weekly column for the Pine Bluff Commercial, "Novelle's Notes", pertaining to food nutrition, preparation and safety and on home management. She was on the Mental Health Board of Directors for 40 years where she served as treasurer; the Pine Bluff Chapter of Altrusa International Organization, served as reporter, vice-president and president; AAUW, Beta Sigma Phi Council; Federation of Garden Clubs (Ex Officio Member), Farm Bureau, Farm Bureau Auxilliary, Jefferson Hospital Auxiliary, Red Cross, Pine Bluff Chamber of Commerce-Special Activities Committee; Eastern Star; YWCA, First Presbyterian Church Women Circle, ABWA.
