John Wallace Townsend of Dallas, Texas passed away Saturday June 12, 2010 at 55 years old. He was born in Little Rock, Arkansas to the late Mary Kathryn "Kat" and A.E. "Jack" Townsend Jr. John is survived by his two loving daughters, Bryn Kathryn Townsend and Hallie Wallis Townsend. He is also survived by his sister Laurie Kathryn Townsend Rosenwasser and two nephews; David Benjamin Rosenwasser and Mark Jason Rosenwasser. He graduated from Central High School and took pride in being a southern boy. John graduated Magna Cum Laude from Vanderbilt University where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and the Phi Beta Kappa Society. He received his Master of Business Administration from the University of Arkansas and was elected a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma Society, the International Honor Society of Business. A perfect Saturday for John Townsend consisted of rising at 4:30 am, reading over his inspirational bible verses and driving to the Park Cities YMCA to begin his day with exercise and fellowship. When he returned home, he and his dogs would set off on their morning "paper route" which consisted of his delivering any papers still on the sidewalk to the owner's doorstep. He would do several blocks and then make his way back home, visiting with neighbors along the way. After a shower and maybe a haircut, a burger at Snuffers or Burger House with his daughters was next on his list. John was always happy to help anyone in need and had a genuine love of people. He would be the first one to make calls to help a friend or an acquaintance find a job. He served on the board at the Family Place, volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, coached many sports teams for his daughters over the years, and was an active member of Highland Park Presbyterian Church where he was a Sunday school teacher, a member of the Youth Group Advisory Board, and served as a Deacon. All of those who really knew John knew that the only thing that John loved more than his family was God. He remained strong in his faith to the day he died. John was involved in the Real Estate and Financial Services industries in Dallas for more than 25 years. A graveside service will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park on Monday June 21, 2010 at 11 a.m. For memorial information please contact Terri Box at 214-597-2547. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home, www.ruebelfuneralhome.com.
