Kermit Edwin Johnson, 94, of Damascus, Ark. passed away Thursday, June 17, 2010 at Veterans Hospital Little Rock, Ark. He was born Dec. 18, 1915 in Damascus, Ark. to the late Harry Thomas and Nettie (Rowe) Johnson. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and participated in the Normandie Invasion and was a Purple Heart recipient. He was a member of the Southside Baptist Church Damascus, Ark He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years Edith Johnson; two brothers, Eldon Johnson and Eual Johnson; one sister, Eva Harness; and one great-grandson, Logan Flagg. He is survived by his daughter, Kathleen and Dave Smith of Damascus, Ark.; two grandchildren, Misti and Todd Flagg of Greenbrier, Ark., and Damon and Angela Smith of Damascus, Ark.; four great-grandchildren, Conner and Paxton Flagg and Kensi and Griffin Smith; two brothers, H.R. Johnson of Damascus, Ark.; and Robert F. Johnson of Witchita, Kan.; and two sisters, Reba Nell Shelby of Fall Branch, Tenn.; and Marvelle Davis of Albuquerque, N.M.; and many relatives and friends. Casketbearers: Damon Smith, Todd Flagg, David Johnson, Jack Johnson, H.C. Wallace, and Frank Golden. Honorary Casketbearers: Russell Hester, Charles Wood, Ken Bailey, and Doug Green. Visitation will be 9:30-10:30 a.m. and Funeral Service will be 11 a.m., Monday, June 21, 2010 at Southside Baptist Church Damascus, Ark. with Pastor Steve Stephens officiating.
