Geraldine Sarah Laney Ashley Morrison, 83, of Benton, Ark., was born to the late Walter and Clara Laney on November 17, 1926 in Conway, Arkansas. This beautiful child of God went Home Sunday October 31st, 2010 in Benton, Ark. She accepted Christ at an early age at St. James C.M.E in Conway, Ark. Later she joined Pleasant Hill A.M.E Church of Benton as a lifetime member. She was united in marriage to the late Herman Ashley and to that union was born five children. Her second husband proved to be the love of her life it was the late Eddie (Sugar) Morrison. This union was blessed with four children. Geraldine was preceded in death by her brother Robert W. Laney. Her only surviving sibling is Walter (Frankie) Laney of Shreveport, La. She worked at the Benton State Hospital for thirty years touching the lives of many people in that time. When she retired she continued to work for the acceptance of the mentally ill and always provided a safe haven for those that needed it. Geraldine was a member of the Benton Chamber of Commerce. She was appointed to the Variance Board in 1990 and served until she died. She was an active member of the Wilma Stewart Garden Club, and an honorary member of the Benton Golden "K" Kiwanis Club that she enjoyed so much and loved. She leaves with loving memories her four daughters Ms. Patricia Ashley, Mrs. Gloria (Willie) Floyd, Ms. Julia A. Morrison, Mrs. Deandra Clegg, all of Benton; four step-daughters, Mrs. Georgia Heard and Mrs. Eunice (Mike) Thrasher, both of Little Rock, Mrs. Mary Mathis of Inglewood, Calif., Mrs. Eddie L. (Willie) Jones of Richmond, Calif.; five sons Mr. Herman (Annette) Ashley, Mr. Donald Morrison, both of Benton, Ark., Mr. David L. (Octie) Ashley, Mr. Eddie Michael (Wanda) Morrison, both of Little Rock, Ark., Mr. Larry Ashley of Kanas City, Mo.; three step- sons, Mr. Thomas (Dean) Morrison of Hope, Ark., Mr. Charles Morrison of Belleville, Ill., Mr. Clarence Morrison of Inglewood, Calif.; Ashley Works granddaughter, 18 other grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, special lifetime friend Mr. Al. Morris of Los Angeles, Calif., and many, many other relatives and friends. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, November 5, 2010 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Roller-Ballard Funeral Home (501-315-4047). Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 6, 2010 at 2 p.m. at the Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Morrison and Rev. Willie Floyd officiating.
