Fern Ellen Karnes

Mrs. Fern Karnes, 87, of Cherry Valley, passed away November 4, 2010 in Jonesboro. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred Johnson and Carmen Futrell Johnson; her husband, W.M. Karnes in 1969; daughter, Doris Bachand in 2002; and brothers, Leon Johnson, W.C. Johnson and Merele Johnson. Mrs. Karnes was born in Missouri on January 5, 1923. She was a housewife and worked as a LPN before retiring from Cross County Hospital. Fern was a member of Mann's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors are her son, Landell (Lanny) Karnes of Cherry Valley; brother, Walter Lee "Sonny" Johnson of Cherry Valley; grandchildren, Luanne McCammon, Erran Karnes and Callie Swaite; and great grandchildren, Laney Bang and Lily Swaite. Services are Saturday at 11 a.m. at Kernodle Funeral Home with burial in Vanndale Cemetery. Kernodle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
