William M. "Bill" Pounders, 87, of Benton, formerly of Pine Bluff, died on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010. He is survived by two daughters, Dianna L. Gant and husband Dennis of Benton, and Sharon E. Weaver and husband Dwight of Chapel Hill, N.C.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Melba Lowrence of Horseshoe Bend, Ark.; and a brother, Harold Pounders of North Little Rock. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean Pounders; a son, Kenneth E. Pounders; a granddaughter, Leslie Pounders; a brother, James Pounders; and a sister, Joyce McCarty. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, and retired as a Captain after 27 years from Pine Bluff Police Department. He was an avid golfer. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Pinecrest Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation.
