William Kenfield Shaw, Sr.

William Kenfield Shaw, Sr 63, Conway, Arkansas, died Thursday, November 11, 2010, at St. Andrews Place Nursing Home. He was born December 11, 1946 in Houston Texas, son of the late Joe C. and Elizabeth (Kenfield) Shaw. He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Lauren Elaine Shaw. Mr. Shaw was a retired, Physician's Assistant and a member of First United Methodist Church of Conway. He was one of the first Physician's Assistants in the State of Arkansas after receiving his certification from the University of Alabama, Birmingham in the early 1970's. He also held a masters degree in Counseling. He worked in many different locations from North Carolina to the National Parks out West. Bill loved the outdoors, camping, canoeing, kayaking, most of all sailing. One of his favorite float trips was the annual full moon floats down the Buffalo River. Before having to move back to Conway he lived on Beaver Lake outside Eureka Springs where he was a member of the Beaver Lake Sailing Club. With the assistance of his crew, he won many Regatta's including the Arkansas Cup Series two years in a row in 2000 and 2001 aboard his sailboat "Kemah". Bill was also one of the first members of the Arkansas Canoe Club where he won many awards and was an instructor for the annual canoe school hosted by the club. He is survived by his son, William K. Shaw Jr. and wife Sarah of Conway; grandchildren, Allison, Emile, and Brandon Shaw, all of Conway. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Sunday, November 14, 2010, at the funeral home. Funeral will be 3 p.m., Monday, in the chapel of Roller McNutt Funeral Home, with the Reverend Charles Murry officiating.
