Janice Polk

Funeral services for Janice Polk, age 85 of McNeil, Arkansas will be held on Friday, November 19, 2010 at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in McNeil with Bro. Danny Bullock officiating. Interment will follow at the New Hope Cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home, Inc. of Magnolia. Family visitation will be Thursday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Janice Hearnsberger Polk was born January 7, 1925 to the union of Claudia and Brawner Hearnsberger in New Edinburg, Arkansas. She and husband James K. Polk established Polk Furniture City in 1951 in Magnolia which grew to locations throughout Arkansas and Springhill, Louisiana. She had been a member of the First Baptist Church in McNeil for 64 years. Janice will be remembered for her independent spirit, her love of Razorback sports and her competitive bowling. Preceded in death by her parents, husband James Polk, her daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Tom DeHoney, second husband Charles Thomas and her brother, John Hearnsberger. Survivors are daughter Jo and husband Bodie Woods of Ruston, Louisiana; grandchildren, Sam and Elizabeth Woods and great-grandson, Eli Woods; granddaughter, Jill Woods Goates and husband Steve and great-grandsons, Grant, Gregory and Grayden; son, Pete and wife Theresa Polk of McNeil; grandson, Courtney and wife Brooke Polk, great-grandchildren, Peyton and Maddie Polk, granddaughter, Lori-Anna and husband Ryan Walker and great-grandson, Jaxon, granddaughter, Mary Reynolds and grandsons, Ayden and Carter; sister-in-law, Shirley Hearnsberger; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Janice fought a courageous battle with cancer; the family is greatful to her care giver Gladys Ross. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in McNeil or to charity of donor's choice.
