William C. "Bill" Finch

Crossett, AR, 1926 - 2010

William C. "Bill" Finch, age 84, of Crossett, Ark., passed away on Oct. 16, 2010. He was born Aug. 6, 1926 in Crossett, Ark., to his parents, William E. and Maggie Calhoun Finch. Mr. Finch was an engineer for Mississippi Power and Light. He was a WWII Navy Veteran, a Baptist Deacon, a 32nd degree Mason, a member of Crossett Lodge #576 and a former mayor of Crossett. Mr. Finch was Genealogist General for Mississippi Society War of 1812 and other genealogist organizations. He was a strong supporter of the Crossett Library. Mr. Finch was a member of First Baptist Church of Crossett. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mildred Boxx Finch; one sister and one half sister. Survivors include: his wife, Geraldine Finch of Crossett, Ark.; a son, William C. "Bill" Finch Jr. (Betty) of Water Valley, Miss.; two step-sons John Charles "Sonny" Brooks (Elizabeth), James E. "Jim" Brooks (Sheri), all of Crossett, Ark.; one step-daughter, Elizabeth Ann Laney of Crossett, Ark.; granddaughter, E. Lynn Finch of Metairie, La.; step-grandsons, Bryson Brooks of Greenbrier, Ark., John C. Brooks Jr. of Crossett, Ark.; step-granddaughters, Kara Brooks Greiner (Jay) of Greenbrier, Ark., Sarah Brooks Cauthon (Taylor) of Clarksdale, Miss., Tannie Courson, Kelsey Brooks, both of Crossett, Ark., Miranda Gray of Luling, La., and step-great-grandchildren, Drake Brooks of Cabot, Ark., Cason Brooks, Skylar Courson, both of Crossett, Ark., Peyton Greiner and Brody Greiner, both of Greenbrier, Ark. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Oct. 18, 2010 at Jones Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jamie Staley officiating. Interment will follow at Lakewood Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett, Ark. ( Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until service time on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friends of the Library, c/o Crossett Library, 1700 Main St., Crossett, Ark., 71635 or Lakewood Cemetery Fund, c/o Mary Jane Manning, 1106 Hickory St., Crossett, Ark., 71635.
