Donald Lee Terry, 71, of Springdale, Ark., surrounded by his loving family, succumbed to his battle with cancer on Wednesday, Oct 27, 2010 at his home. Don was born on July 17, 1939 in Fayetteville, Ark., a son of Alvin Terry and Marie Thompson Terry. He had retired from the Standard Register Co. in Fayetteville where he worked as a receiving clerk. He was very active at his church before his illness, having taught Sunday school at the First Freewill Baptist Church and later becoming a Member of United Baptist Church in Springdale. Don had been a volunteer Fire Fighter in Tontitown and volunteered at the Tontitown Grape festival for many years, he was an Army veteran and a Ham radio operator with his call sign being KB5KZP. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Carolyn Benson Terry of the home; his mother, Marie Terry Barnes of Springdale; three children, Donna & husband Johnny Rhodes of Lowell, Karen & husband Bill Wilcher of Caddo Mills, Texas, and Brian & wife Minerva Terry of Springdale; one sister, Ann Fowler of Fayetteville, Ark.; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and countless members, young and old, of the Christian faith which he cherished working with. He was preceded by his father Alvin Terry in 1988 and one sister, Carolyn Goff. Services will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at 2 p.m. at the Springdale United Baptist Church. Brother Jim Spurlock and Brother Mark Wood will officiate the service with burial being held at the Elm springs Cemetery under the direction of the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home of Springdale.
