Herbert T. Phillips, 81, of Pine Bluff, died Thursday, September 2, 2010 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. He was born January 12, 1929 in Jefferson County, son of Drayton T. and Lavinia Crossett Phillips. Mr. Phillips was reared and received his early education in Pine Bluff, graduating from Watson Chapel High School in 1947. He worked for the Pine Bluff Fire Department for 21 years, retiring as captain of Fire Station #3. Mr. Phillips worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone for 12 years, retiring as a lineman. Mr. Phillips was a member of Watson Chapel Baptist Church. Before joining Watson Chapel Baptist Church, Mr. Phillips was a long-time member of Immanuel Baptist Church. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, member of Jacob Brump Lodge and Sahara Shrine Temple. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Robert Michael "Mike" Phillips. Survivors include his wife of nearly 60 years, Jo Ann Shannon Phillips, whom he married October 11, 1950 in Pine Bluff; daughter, Becca (Mike) Davis of Pine Bluff; two brothers, Bobby Phillips of Pine Bluff and Carey Phillips of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; sister, Eunice Edwards of South Port, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Drew (Rebecca) Davis of El Dorado, Kimberly Shannon Phillips (Joe) George of Fayetteville and Amber Phillips (Reed) Gibbons of Little Rock; and three great-grandchildren, Collier Gibbons, Drayton Davis and Marley Kate Gibbons. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Saturday, September 4, 2010 in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Reverend Todd Howard and Reverend Steve Monk officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Robinson's.
