Zelma Jean West Atterbury 82, of Sherwood passed away Tuesday, September 7, 2010. She was born to the late Bon and Bonnie Cecil Hardwick West in Richmond Heights, Mo. Zelma attended Elementary and High School in Richmond Heights, Mo. She attended Washington University of St. Louis (Pre-Med) then later LPN Nursing School in Batesville, Ark. Her employment consists of Washington University and White-River Regional Hospital, but primarily she was a mother and housewife. Zelma was a life-long Presbyterian most recently a member of Park Hill Presbyterian Church in North Little Rock. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Little Red River Chapter, and Colonial Dames (Pre 1700 Ancestry) Mary Place Chapter also a member of the Selective Service Board of Independence County, Ark. She enjoyed arts and crafts, music, reading historical novels, old movies, family history research and travel. Since 1990, she has enjoyed researching her family history and visiting and studying the sites where her ancestors lived in Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Tennessee, and locating records. Zelma's "favorite" ancestor was Elizabeth Blossom, who came to America in 1629 on the second sailing of the Mayflower, married Nathaniel Fitz-Randolph and became the matriarch of a long line of Fitz-Randolphs in America. She is survived by her husband, John Clay Atterbury; two daughters, Dr. Bonnie Jean Atterbury Taylor and husband Dr. David of Little Rock and Laura Lynn Atterbury Reynolds and husband, Thomas M. of Sherwood; grandchildren, David Matthew Taylor of Fayetteville, Ark., Dr. Amy Catherine Taylor of New Haven, CT; John Michael Reynolds and wife, Emily Erin Milholen of Fayetteville, Ark.; Amanda Marie Reynolds and Andrew David Reynolds both of Sherwood; brother-in-law, Thomas Joseph Atterbury and wife, Jean Godwin of Columbus, Ohio; nephews; Thomas Joseph Atterbury of Estes Park, Colo. and William Godwin Atterbury of Columbus, Ohio; and host of other family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, September 9, 2010 at Roller-Owens Funeral Home, 5509 John F. Kennedy Blvd. North Little Rock, Ark. 72116. The family will receive friends from 12-2 p.m. Friday, September 10, 2010 at Roller-Crouch Funeral Home at 510 E. College Avenue, Batesville, Ark. (870-793-4161). Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery in Batesville.
