Joyce LaDean Sharp Fudge

Joyce LaDean Sharp Fudge, formerly of North Little Rock, departed this life on September 8 , 2010 in Flower Mound, Texas, after a long illness. She is preceded in Death by her husband of 58 years, Thomas Guindell Fudge. "Guindell", was the light of her life. She supported him throughout his career in Extension Service; traveled with him to Central and South America to spread the gospel and worshiped with him in their church home at Immanuel Baptist. She was mother to Rita Fudge Johnson (Sam) of Flower Mound, Texas, Gwen Fudge Shankle (Jim) of Springdale, Ark. and Kay Fudge Carraway (Patrick) of Warren, Ark. She had six grandchildren: Jeffrey Johnson (Linda) of Woking, England; Joey Johnson of San Francisco, Calif.; Kelly Proctor of Jonesboro, Ark.; Baron Roberts of Warren, Ark.; Kyle Proctor (Begina) of Cabot, Ark. and Joshua Roberts of Springfield, Mo. and eight great-grandchildren: Seth, Mari and Stephen Johnson of Glendale, Wis.; Savannah and Sean Johnson of Woking, England; Kurt Gross of Jonesboro, Ark. and Landon and Taylor Proctor of Cabot, Ark. Joyce was born in Evening Shade, Arkansas on Saturday, October 19, 1929, just 10 days prior to "Black Tuesday" or the beginning of the "Great Depression". She was the first child and first daughter of Spellman L. and Maudie Edwards Sharp. She became the sister to seven brothers: Laddie Sharp (Jean deceased) of Evening Shade, Lloyd Sharp deceased (Mary), Dale Sharp deceased (Pam), Roy Sharp deceased (Carolyn, deceased), Dwight Sharp (Annette) of Evening Shade, William Sharp of Evening Shade, Donald Sharp (Bobbie Ann) of Cotter, Ark.; and two sisters Frances Sharp Lane (Mike) of Desloge, Mo. and Marilyn Sharp Batterton (Dean) of Franklin, Ark. Joyce was immensely proud of her family and visited them frequently. Six of her seven brothers were Veterans of the Armed Services and her two sisters were both nurses. The youngest of the family is a Superintendent in the Arkansas School System. Joyce loved her In-laws, Ray and Clara Fudge who had seven children including her husband "Guindell" (Thomas G). Joyce became sister-in-law to Kenneth Fudge (Helen, deceased), Robert M Fudge (Imogene), Bobbie Fudge deceased (Winnie, deceased) Frances Fudge Wann, deceased (Ralph), Clara Nell Fudge Stone (Delbert) and Virginia Fudge Jones. She was Aunt Joyce to 35 nieces and nephews and over 50 great-nieces and nephews and cousins. She was a compassionate friend to many. Joyce was an extraordinary seamstress, who designed and created fashions for her daughters, supported them in their educations, babysat their children, sat by their hospital beds, learned to love their husbands and always served a feast when they visited. She was an active member or sponsor in the PTA, WMU, 4H, GA's and Garden Club. After graduating from Evening Shade High School, she attended Lyon's college in Batesville, Arkansas. Joyce taught pre-school in Pine Bluff and Warren and Couples Sunday School class at Immanuel Baptist Church. She visited the sick, shared with the less fortunate, witnessed to the lost and prayed daily for family and friends. She always supported her church, her family and her community. Visitation will be Friday, Sept. 10 at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home, 7724 Landers Road, North Little Rock, Ark. between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Services will be Saturday, Sept. 11, at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home, 7724 Landers Rd., North Little Rock, Ark. at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America (www.alzfdn.org) or Immanuel Baptist Church, building fund.
