Velma Lois Self, age 98, entered into the presence of the Lord on Thursday, September 16, 2010, in an assisted living facility in Texarkana, Texas. Born on August 12, 1912, in Sayre, Oklahoma, to Ed and Kate Theobalt, Lois was reared in Glenwood, Arkansas. She was a graduate of Glenwood High School and attended Henderson-Brown College in Arkadelphia. After serving as one of Glenwood's first telephone operators, Lois married Dewey Self on March 31, 1934. They became the parents of three children and lived in Warren, Arkansas, and later in Texarkana, Arkansas. She was a faithful member of Beech Street First Baptist Church and was employed at the Arkansas Revenue Department until her retirement. Preceding her in death were her husband, Dewey Self, in 1986 and her daughter, Glenna Self, in 2006. Survivors are her daughter, June Self of Texarkana, Arkansas; her son, Larry Self (Marilyn) of Pisgah Forest, North Carolina; her sister, Elizabeth Harris of Hot Springs; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, September 18, 2010, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home in Glenwood with graveside services following at 2 p.m., in the Glenwood Cemetery.
