Lola Pauline "Polly" Fomby Pennington, age 89, of East Clark County died Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010. She was born in the Fomby community, near Ashdown, in Little River County, Ark. on Feb. 25, 1921 to John Russell Fomby and Clara Pickett Fomby, both of whom had died by the end of 1928. Polly was raised by her uncle and aunt, Lawrence and Jo Fomby. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, John Nolan Pennington in January, 1999; infant son Jon Marvin Pennington and siblings Marvin Fomby, Bea McAllister, Rose Caler and Ruby Gammill. She was a member of Baring Cross Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher and enjoyed the "Keenagers" group and serving lunch at the Missionary Baptist Student Fellowship. Polly and Nolan enjoyed dancing with the "Arkie Stars" and traveling to square dance events in other states. After his death, Francis Custom Tours provided a way for her to continue traveling with her friends. Polly served many years as Clark County clerk. She was a yellow dog Democrat. She is survived by her children, Lawrence Fomby "Larry" Pennington and wife Gail, Paula Ann Pennington Mounts and husband Jim; two granddaughters Laura Gail Pennington Lockwood and husband Chad, Sarah Elizabeth Pennington Fairchild and husband Keith; five great-grandhildren, Elizabeth Caroline, Evan Pennington and Elliott DeLaughter Lockwood, and John Benton and George Braxton Fairchild; and special nieces and nephews, Gwen Diemer and husband Dale; Elaine Ashley; Sally Jo McAllister; Buddy Caler and Judy Moon. Graveside service will be at Atchley Cemetery, Dalark, Ark. on Monday, Sept. 20 at 10 a.m. Her long-time pastor and dear friend, Brother James Calhoun, will preside, services under the direction of Pharr Funeral Home of Gurdon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Richmond United Methodist Church, 145 E. Commerce St., Ashdown, 71822 and Atchley Cemetery Association, 2470 N Hwy 7, Arkadelphia, 71923.
