Merle Evans, 68, died September 25, 2010. He was born July 12, 1942 to the late Jess and Aliene Evans. He was a lumber buyer, bookkeeper and cattle rancher. He was a 1961 graduate of Des Arc High School and of Draughns Business School; spent six years in the Army National Guard; was a member for 31 years of Brownsville Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and was a former Sunday School Superintendent. Survivors include his wife Geneva Whitehurst, whom he married July 1, 1967. He is also survived by two sons, Carlton Young and wife JoAnn, and Ronnie Evans and wife Janice of Lonoke; four grandchildren, Crystal Lewis and husband Matt of Benton, Kala Young, Brennon Ingle and Audrey Evans of Lonoke; two great-grandchildren, Kallie Young of Lonoke and Cooper Lewis of Benton; two brothers, Marvin Evans and wife Myrtle of Washington, Carroll Evans and wife Rose Mae of Stuttgart, and one sister Loretta Evans of Cabot, four aunts, one uncle, and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 2 p.m. at Lonoke Baptist Church, with interment in Wattensaw Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6-8 p.m. at Boyd Funeral Home, Lonoke.
