On April 5, 2011 Ruth Brewster-Philbrook passed away in Duvall, Washington. She was a friend, mentor and confidant to many. Ruth lived by her deep belief that in helping others, you enrich yourself. By her own reckoning, she was wealthy because her life was defined by service. Those who knew her agree. Born July 24 1941 to the late Vernon Brewster and Retha Katie Woolley-Brewster, Ruth spent her early years in the Woodlawn community and later in Pine Bluff. She was a graduate of Pine Bluff High School and magna cum laude from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. Ruth retired from Genie Industries in Redmond, Washington. Ruth's survivors include her daughter, Joanna Collins of Nashville, Tennessee; step-daughter, Marilyn Davis of Springfield, Missouri; son, Jeff Hubanks of Glendale, Arkansas; step-son, Stan Philbrook of San Antonio, Texas; sister, Margie Drewry of Southside, Tennessee; and brother, Johnie Brewster of Rison, Arkansas. Ruth's grandchildren are Lauren Rose Collins, Daniel and Andrew Davis, Katherine and Kassandra Hubanks, and Rachel Philbrook. Ruth's friends are innumerable. Her passing is a painful loss to all touched by her generous spirit. Even so, Ruth would counsel that grief should manifest not in tears, but as a tribute of service to others, love and kindness. The visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Friday, April 8, 2011, at Ralph Robinson & Son. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 9, 2011, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Johnny Brewster officiating. Burial will be in Flatwood Cemetery in Mountain View at 1 p.m., Monday, April 11, 2011, by Ralph Robinson & Son. Online register at: www.ralphrobinsonandson.com.
