Charles "Chuck" Lively, 89, was a native Arkansan, decorated veteran, outstanding athlete, successful businessman and passionate family man. Chuck passed away on March 25 in Lenexa, Kan. He was born in Des Arc, Ark. on Oct. 8, 1921. His parents were the late Elmer and Pearl (Green) Lively. Chuck married his soul mate Delores Brown in 1946. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Chuck is directly survived by his wife, Delores "Bitsy" and his three children, Chuck (Mary) Lively of Omaha, Neb., Candy Lively of Racine, Wis. and Cheri (Rob) Martin of Ooltewah, Tenn. His two surviving sisters are Lorene Ballowe of Fort Smith, Ark. and Jean (Ralph) Todd of Blytheville, Ark. Chuck was an exceptional athlete. He was on the University of Arkansas's (U of A) football team that won the infamous 1946 Cotton Bowl that was also known as the "Ice Bowl." Chuck made first team All Southwest Conference in 1946 and the U of A 1940-1949 All Decade Team. He was a low handicap golfer that competed on challenging golf courses throughout the southeastern United States well into his seventies. Chuck was a decorated World War II veteran in which he proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He retired as an executive from International Harvester Corporation after 34 years with the company. Chuck attended the Valley View United Methodist Church and was a very faithful member. Services were held on April 4 at the Valley View United Method Church in Overland Park, Kan.
