Merwin Eugene Meyer

Merwin Eugene ("Gene") Meyer, 78, of Memphis, Tenn., passed away Thursday, April 7, 2011. He was preceded in death by his father, Harry Martin Meyer Sr.; his mother, Marjorie Griffin Peterson Meyer and his brother, Harry Martin Meyer Jr. He was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Memphis. He was a retired City of Memphis school teacher, member of the Tennessee/Arkansas National Guard, and an Army Veteran. Gene graduated from Conway High School, and received Masters and Bachelor Degrees from ASTC (now called UCA) in Conway, and a SPEC Degree in Education from University of Memphis. Mr. Meyer is survived by his wife of 25 years, Martha E. Meyer of Memphis, Tenn.; children, Merwin Eugene ("Gene") Meyer Jr. of Conway, Ark., Tony and Darla Childs of Roswell, Ga., and Greg Walters of Houston, Texas; sister, Martha E. Moore of Conway, Ark.; grandchildren, Carrie Wright and Charles E. Wright Jr. both of Cordova, Tenn., and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Sunday, April 10 at Forest Hill East Funeral Home in Memphis, Tenn. Services will be at 10 a.m., Monday, April 11 at the funeral home with interment to follow. Memorials may be sent to Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Memphis.
